Ready Meals Fly Off The Shelves As They Grow Ahead Of The Netherlands’ Prepared Meals Sector As A Whole

Weak economic growth in the country means that the Dutch Prepared Meals sector will have a value CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 2.3% to 2017. Despite this, Prepared Meals ranks third amongst all food sectors in the Netherlands, behind Soy Products & Seasonings, Dressings, and Sauces.

 

Convenient, easy to prepare Ready Meals are, perhaps unsurprisingly, the most popular category in the sector, with value and volume shares of 69.4% and 69.7% respectively for 2012. This popularity looks to continue over the next five years, as the category grows ahead of the sector in terms of both value and volume, at a CAGR of 2.7% and 3.3% respectively to 2017.

 

Pizza also did marginally well in 2012, with value shares of 26.9% and volume shares of 27.2%, and will show a reasonable value and volume CAGR of 1.3% and 1.8% respectively over the next five years.

 

Meal Kits however, held a relatively low share of the sector for the same year, with value and volume shares of 3.7% and 3.1% respectively in 2012, and will display the lowest growth of the sector, with a value CAGR of 0.5% and volume CAGR of 1.1% between 2012 and 2017.

Most channels have gained a share of the sector recently, with Convenience Stores leading the surge

The majority of channels have seen a gain in their share of the sector, with Convenience stores in particular, gaining the most share in the past few years, closely followed by Hypermarkets & Supermarkets and Food & Drink Specialists.
